More About Storm's Talks

"Humans woke up too late, so we need restorative development.

Who wants to sustain this mess?" - Storm Cunningham (Jan. 18, 2010)

A high-ranking U.S. State Department official (who is not allowed to publicly promote private interests, and so can't be named) told Storm after a 2006 presentation:

“You’re one of the few speakers I’ve seen who uses Powerpoint properly: Very little text; just a rapid-fire series of powerful photographs and relevant, hilarious cartoons that make your points and keep the audience on the edge of their seats. You could have gone on for another hour without losing anyone’s attention.”

The discussions following each of Storm's talks can be focused to accomplish agenda you wish, from an informal Q&A to a facilitated session designed to create a work product, such as a community vision statement, a strategic plan outline, improvements to public policies, etc.

For instance: In late 2007, a college client used the first half (Restoration Economy) of the workshop to stimulate a general discussion the school's overall strategy vis a vis the growing trends of natural resource restoration and community revitalization.  In the afternoon, they followed the second talk (Rewealth) with breakout sessions that generated ideas for curricula and research programs.

You can offer Storm's workshops as a revenue-generating, separate registration event, or as a next-day follow-up to Storm's keynote.  Your audience will leave with powerful, practical detailed knowledge and insights that they can immediately put to use.  They'll learn the details of the "recipe for rapid, resilient renewal", as well as a wealth of revitalization-related designing, funding, and public-private partnering do's & don'ts.

Why choose an Intensive or a Workshop? Since 2002, Storm has been deeply immersed full-time in restoration, revitalization, regeneration, redevelopment, etc. projects all over the world.  These have included just about every project type imaginable, from large-scale river restoration on public and tribal lands, to reuse of individual buildings and remediation of brownfields, to greater metropolitan area renewal, to national environmental and economic growth policies. These extended sessions are your opportunity to tap that deep, broad, and unique experience.

How are the above keynotes and workshops customized?  Three ways:

  1. Storm's two 60-minute standard keynotes both have about 2 hours of potential material. He selects only the 50% of slides that are of most interest to your audience.

  2. Storm's slides are primarily photos and other graphics: very little text. What he says about those slides is honed specifically to your audience.

  3. If your program doesn't allow for the full 60-minute keynote--or if you prefer a talk without slides--Storm will create a fully customized talk from scratch.  Such presentations are full-fee only, and are not eligible for the sliding scale pricing.

Since 2002 (when The Restoration Economy was published), Storm has been the leading speaker on the revitalized future of the world. He will show your audience that their children’s future will be healthier, wealthier, & more beautiful.  How can that be?  Because 5000 years of basing our economic growth on "de" words--such as development, depletion, despoilment--are finally coming to an end.  We're increasingly basing our economic growth on "re" words, such as redevelopment, replenishment, & restoration.

Storm will show your audience how your event or industry fits into the context of this historic global shift. He'll show them how their organizations, investments, & communities can thrive in the huge, fast-growing global restoration economy.

Author of the seminal book on restorative development, The Restoration Economy, Storm's inspiring, educational, and highly entertaining presentations will open your audiences' eyes to the largest and most exciting new realm of business, community, non-profit, government, and personal opportunities: Restoring the world!

Well over $2 trillion/year is being invested in revitalizing our communities and natural resources, and it's growing at 20-30% annually.  A keynote by Storm will provide a larger context for your conference, helping the audience see how this megatrend is affecting their organizations, careers, & technologies.

I was most impressed by Storm’s original message,

but his new message appears even more powerful and well-crafted.

He’s talking about a simple, practical approach to reversing some of our most intractable economic, environmental, and social problems.

I look forward to reading Storm’s new book.
Dr. Mohan K. Wali of the Ohio State University (OSU)

Professor of Ecology and Environmental Science at OSU,

Director, Environmental Science Graduate Program, School of Natural Resources.

He is also a Professor at OSU’s John Glenn School of Public Affairs.

[Referring to the difference between Storm's Restoration Economy talk and his Rewealth! talk.]

Storm is the speaker to choose when you need advance insight into the technologies, leaders, and trends that are restoring our communities, our economies, and our planet.

For instance: In 2006, the U.S. Embassy in Warsaw sponsored Storm's speaking tour of Poland, also arranging meetings with numerous mayors and public leaders.  With the end of U.S. financial aid to Poland, the U.S. State department is looking for ways to remain relevant to Poland's economic future.

Storm's restoration economy message was greatly appreciated: The public presentation in Łodz was packed full, and the Warsaw presentation (at the Zacheta National Gallery of Art) was standing-room-only.

Storm's talks are popular with:

  • Business owners, leaders, & strategists

  • Environmental, ecological, sustainability, Smart Growth audiences

  • Community leaders (policymakers, planners, & citizen groups)

  • Disaster & war restoration audiences

  • Non-profit & trade association leaders

  • Architects, engineers, & builders

  • University audiences (staff, faculty, & students)

  • Government & community planners

  • Institutional investors & venture capital firms

  • Real estate investors, developers, & property managers

  • Multi-national audiences, especially those focused on developing economies

Is your audience looking for business, investment, or community growth opportunities? Restorative development currently accounts for over $2 trillion annually, worldwide, and continues to grow explosively.  The restoration economy is rapidly restoring our heritage, our infrastructure, our contaminated lands, our disasters/wars, our ecosystems, our watersheds, our farms, and our fisheries.  In the process, it is revitalizing our communities, our businesses, and our lives.
